Courchevel Airport is legendary in the aviation world, known for its steep runway and stunning mountain surroundings. It is a place where only the most precise pilots dare to land. Today, I decided to test my skills (and my aircraft’s limits) by attempting a landing with a massive A380 at this iconic airport.
The Challenge:
Courchevel is designed for smaller aircraft, not for the giant of the skies like the A380. As I approached the runway, the reality of the situation became clear—the runway was incredibly short, and the surrounding terrain left zero room for error.
What Went Wrong:
Well, as you can see from the photos, things did not exactly go according to the flight manual! Attempting to bring such a heavy aircraft onto a short, inclined runway led to a rather “dramatic” arrival. The weight, the speed, and the unique geometry of the Courchevel runway proved that some giants are just not meant to dance on mountain peaks.
Lessons Learned:
This landing was a humbling reminder of why pilots train so hard and why airport restrictions exist for a reason. While it ended in an unplanned “nose-dive” into the tarmac, it was an incredibly fun and hilarious experience that shows just how wild things can get in Microsoft Flight Simulator.
